SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Elms College women's soccer squad registered a 2-0 non-conference victory over host Western New England University at Suprenant Field Wednesday night. With the win, the Blazers improve to 6-1-1 overall, while Western New England drops to 3-5-1 on the year.

The Blazers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as junior Angelina Estrada (Springfield, Mass.) delivered a pass to classmate Brie Voight (Springfield, Mass.), who provided the finish past Golden Bears sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Vellieux (Newington, Conn.) to hand Elms an early 1-0 lead.

The Blazers found their insurance goal in the 52nd minute of play as sophomore Kelsey Shea (Belchertown, Mass.) dribbled through the Golden Bears box and ripped a shot off Veilleux and into the back corner of the net, extending the Elms advantage to 2-0.

Veilleux helped keep things close for Western New England, contributing a pair of clutch saves on direct shots from Estrada and freshman Alizaya Clark (Springfield, Mass.) late in the second half. The Blazers put the game away with 6:06 remaining when junior Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) intercepted a pass in the WNE zone and chipped a 25-yarder over the outstretched arms of Veilleux, to send Elms to the 3-0 win.

The Blazers outshot the Golden Bears, 10-3, during the contest. Elms freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) made two saves in her fifth clean sheet of the season, while Veilleux stopped three shots for Western New England.

The Blazers will be back on the field for their highly-anticipated New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) clash with Lesley University at Leary Field Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff. Western New England hosts Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
