Wellesley Edges Women's Soccer, 1-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College soccer first year Emily Tran (Vienna, Va.) scored the game's only goal in the 14th minute to lift the Blue to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Elms College on day one of the Wellesley Invitational on Saturday.

The Blue improve to 3-0-0 on the season thanks to the squad's first home victory of the year. Elms drops their first game of the season, after opening the year with three-straight wins, and is now 3-1-0.

Tran netted her first collegiate goal 13:42 into the opening half, slotting home a one-time feed from classmate Carley Phillips (Waterford, Conn.) on the right post following a low cross from outside the penalty area. Tran's marker would hold up as the game-winner, as neither team could find the back of the net following the opener.

Wellesley first year goalkeeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) made three saves to record her first collegiate shutout and improve to 3-0-0 on the season. Elms first year goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) turned back five Wellesley shots in 90 minutes of action and is now 3-1-0 on the year.

The Blue held a 16-11 advantage in shots, while the Blazers had the edge in corner kicks, 6-2.

Juniors Angelina Estrada (Springfield, Mass.) and Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) led the Elms attack with three shots on goal apiece. For Wellesley, senior Maddie Carlborg (Burbank, Calif.) unleashed five shots, getting two on frame.

The Blue will return to action tomorrow, Sunday, September 11, at 12 PMwhen they host Lesley University on day two of the Wellesley Invitational. Elms will travel across town tomorrow to play Babson at 1:00 PM.
