NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Elms College women's soccer team collected their third straight win to open the season, defeating host Albertus Magnus College, 2-0, in a non-conference match at Celetano Field Wednesday afternoon. The Blazers improve to 3-0 overall, while the Falcons drop to 1-2 on the year.

After a scoreless first half of action, the Blazers cracked the scoreboard in the 53rd minute as junior Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) fed classmate Brie Voight (Springfield, Mass.) on a breakaway, where Voight delivered the finish to the back left corner of the net, staking Elms to a 1-0 advantage.

Just over four minutes later, the Blazers netted an insurance goal on a corner kick opportunity. Soucia launched a ball to the front of the net, where senior Kathleen Tuechler (Farmingdale, N.Y.) headed the ball across to senior Rachel Mick (Granby, Mass.), who put the loose ball in the back of the net, pushing the Elms lead to 2-0.

The Blazers outshot the Falcons, 10-4, during the contest. Elms freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) registered her second shutout of the season stopping the lone shot she faced, while sophomore Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) made a game-high four saves for Albertus Magnus.

The Blazers return to the pitch this weekend at the Wellesley College Invitational. Elms will face host Blue Saturday at Noon, followed by a match against Babson Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Falcons travel to St. Joseph's (ME) for their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
