Women's Soccer Blanks Bay Path, 3-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College women's soccer team registered their sixth clean sheet of the season, after topping Bay Path University 3-0 in a New England Collegiate Conference match at Leary Field Tuesday night.

After a scoreless first half, the Blazers broke through with 13:11 remaining in the second half from sophomore midfielder Rachel Connell (Easthampton, Mass). The goal came after a hard shot from junior defender Michelle Rossignol (Manchester, Conn.) which was saved, and then put in on the left side from Connell. Rossignol was awarded an assist.

Less than a minute later, Rossignol and sophomore defender Kylen O'Hearn (Somers, Conn.) came down the field on a two-on-one advantage. Rossignol made a touch pass to O'Hearn who put the ball in the upper left hand corner to go up 2-0.

The last goal came with 5:20 remaining in the game when sophomore forward Rachel Mick (Granby, Mass.) made a head pass to senior midfielder Delina DeVillier (Springfield, Mass) in the box, who then ripped the ball into the upper left hand corner past Wildcats' sophomore goalkeeper Alma Rizvani (Prospect, Conn).

"I told the team that I was very proud of them today," said Elms College Head Coach Sean Milbier. "We obviously dominated in shots, but Bay Path played us tough. We kept to our system, slowed things down and possessed the ball today. We made a few personnel changes in the second half, and that gave us more pace and more composure on the ball, and those changes changed the game. We finally relaxed when we broke through, we took our time on the ball, didn't rush and played to feet. We simplified the game, made some really good plays, and scored some nice goals. We have a big game against Southern Vermont on Saturday. It should be for second-place in conference, and it's going to be our senior day. We are going to work on the good things we did today, and continue with our great effort."

Rizvani came away with six saves from the nine that were put on net. Blazers junior goalkeeper Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) made stopped the two shots that came her way.

The Blazers improve to 5-8-1 (4-1 NECC) and look to build off of their strong conference play Saturday, when they host Southern Vermont at 1:00 pm at Leary Field for the NECC matchup.
