WESTFIELD, MA – Westfield State used three
goals and a pair of assists by Leann Rivard (Chicopee,
MA) to seal a 3-0 victory over Elms College in Tuesday
evening’s non-conference women’s soccer game.
With the loss, Elms drops to 0-4 on the season while Westfield
State climbs to 4-1-1 overall.
The Owls broke out to an early 1-0 advantage when Jill
Ranney (Southwick, MA) scored on an assist from Rivard in
the 13th minute of play.
Rivard then found Ali Pease (Ludlow, MA) at the
49:17 mark to lift the lead to 2-0.
Westfield State capped its scoring when Erica Donnelly
(East Weymouth, MA) delivered an unassisted score, making
the Owl lead 3-0.
The Blazers mustered just two first-half shots, one from senior
forward Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, MA) and the other
from senior defender Kelsey Battige (Monson,
MA).
Freshman goalie Molly Corse (Bernardston, MA)
batted away 12 shots in the losing effort.
Elms returns to Leary Field for the first time in 2009 on Saturday,
Sept. 19 when it hosts Mount Holyoke. Game time is slated for 1:00
p.m.
