Blazers Tame Bulldogs In 18-4 Win To Open NECC Play

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Elms College women's lacrosse team got New England Collegiate Conference play started with a bang on Wednesday, picking up an 18-4 victory at Dean.

Haley Roberts put the Blazers (2-6, 1-0 NECC) ahead just 65 seconds into the game and it took Elms just over five minutes to build a 5-0 lead. The Blazers scored the first eight goals of the game before the Bulldogs (0-6, 0-1 NECC) got on the board. Elms led 13-2 at halftime before pumping the brakes in the second half.

Vanessa Vurno scored a game-high five goals while Victoria-Lynn Smith and Haley Richard added four each. Richard also finished with a game-high seven ground balls. Meanwhile, Elms goalkeeper Emily Huber had three saves in the victory.

Lauryn Wilks scored twice to lead the Bulldogs. Elms dominated the draw, finishing with a 21-2 advantage, and owned a 34-22 groundball advantage. The Blazers tallied 29 shots in the game, including 25 shots on-goal, while Dean finished with 10 shots and seven on-goal.

Elms opens a three-game home-stand against Lasell on Thursday before jumping back into NECC play against Bay Path on April 7.
