WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO LASELL, 18-4

CHICOPEE, MA, April 1, 2009 - Lasell College junior attack Andrea Ward (Hingham, MA) and senior attack Caitlyn Murphy (Katonah, NY) netted a game-high three goals apiece and the Lasers raced out to an early eight-goal lead en route to an 18-4 win over Elms College in Wednesday night's non-conference women's lacrosse game at Leary Field.

Lasell (6-4) won its third straight and was victorious for the sixth time in its last seven games, while Elms College remained winless at 0-6.

The visiting Lasers raced out to a quick 5-0 lead in the game's opening 4:21, as Murphy tallied twice during the early spurt.

Following a goal by sophomore midfielder Jenn Lough (Feeding Hills, MA) - her sixth of the year - cut the Blazers deficit to 5-1 with 22:17 remaining in the opening half, Ward answered 20 seconds later with her second goal of the game and Murphy added her third goal of the game - her team-leading 45th this season - to put the Lasers ahead for good 7-1.

Ward also finished with three assists for Lasell, which led 15-3 at halftime and outshot the host Blazers 30-4 for the game.

Freshman forward Katlyn Harrington (East Longmeadow, MA) netted her team-leading seventh goal of the year for the Blazers, who also received goals from sophomore defender Melissa Meon (South Hadley, MA) and junior midfielder Kaitlyn Graham (Paxton, MA).

Elms College freshman goalkeeper Holly Braziel (Shelburne Falls, MA) finished with 10 saves - all in the first half.

The Blazers return to New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) action when they host Becker on Saturday, April 4. Game time is 11:00 a.m. at Leary Field.
