WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS AT FITCHBURG STATE, 18-1

FITCHBURG, MA, April 7, 2009 - Fitchburg State junior Emily Swan (Franklin, MA) recorded a game-high eight points on three goals and five assists to help lead the host Falcons to an 18-1 win over Elms College in Tuesday evening's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance game at Elliot Field.

Fitchburg State (3-5, 1-2 NEWLA) used a balanced attack as 12 different players registered goals. Freshman Amanda Burns (Weymouth, MA) tallied three scores, while junior Tori D'Amato (Hampden, MA) and freshman Kelly Finamore (Weymouth, MA) were also strong with two goals and one helper each.

Elms College freshman Emily Walsh (Hadley, MA) tallied her third goal of the year for the Blazers' lone tally in the loss.

Fitchburg State opened the contest with 12 unanswered goals to grab a commanding 12-0 lead at the break. Burns and Swan each registered three first half goals for the Falcons, while D'Amato added two goals and one assist. Sophomore Megan Compiano (Georgetown, MA) and classmate Tessa Leahy (Cohasset, MA) each contributed a marker in the Falcons' 12-goal period.

In the second frame, Fitchburg State tallied twice more to extend its lead to 14-0. Freshman Carissa Kennedy (Somerset, MA) opened the second half scoring for the Falcons, while Finamore added her second of the contest. Walsh broke Elms College's scoring silence with a tally at the 19:27 mark, but Fitchburg State recorded four more scores throughout the second half for the 16-1 final.

Fitchburg State outshot Elms College 35-8 in the contest, while holding a 40-16 advantage in ground balls.

Sophomore Connie Perry (Reading, MA) collected her first collegiate victory in net for the Falcons with two saves, while freshman Holly Braziel (Shelburne Falls, MA) stopped seven shots for the Blazers.

Elms College (0-8, 0-4 NEWLA) will travel to Thomas College on Thursday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m.
