WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO WESTERN CONNECTICUT, 19-4

CHICOPEE, MA, April 23, 2008 - Elms College senior attack Caitlin Childs (Hingham, MA) netted a pair of goals and added an assist, but Western Connecticut State University senior attack Ashley Caruso (Northport, NY) scored a game-high five goals and the Colonials scored seven of the game's first eight goals en route to a 19-4 win over the Blazers in Wednesday's non-conference women's lacrosse game at Leary Field.

Western Connecticut won its fourth straight game and improved to 4-12 overall. Elms College concluded its 2008 season 4-9.

Caruso erupted for four of the Colonials' first seven goals - her 34th, 35th, 36th and 37th tallies of the year - in the game's opening 14:43.

Childs, who scored both of her goals in the first half, added her career-high 37th goal of the year to cut the Blazers' deficit to 7-2 with 12:25 left in the first half.

From there, however, Western Connecticut rolled off nine unanswered goals to take control.

Sophomore midfielder Whitney Fairchild (New Milford, CT) scored three goals, while sophomore midfielder Kara Kruczkiewicz (Brookfield, CT), sophomore defender Michelle Dombrowski (Hamden, CT), freshman midfielder Catherine Haase (Middlebury, CT) and freshman midfielder Cathryne Hunton (Brookfield, CT) tallied two goals apiece for the Colonials in the winning effort.

Western Connecticut freshman goalkeeper Erin Tarsi (Danbury, CT) stopped four shots to earn her first win of the year, while Elms College junior goalkeeper Alicia Bobbie (Higganum, CT) finished with 15 saves.

Elms College senior center Carrie Allard (Springfield, MA) scored her 51st career goal and senior midfielder Catherine Thresher (West Suffield, CT) added the Blazers' other goal in the losing effort.

Western Connecticut concludes regular season play with a game at UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday, April 26. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
