WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO FITCHBURG STATE, 11-7

CHICOPEE, MA, March 27, 2008 - Elms College freshman attack Jennifer Lough (Feeding Hills, MA) and senior defender Caitlin Childs (Hingham, MA) each netted a pair of goals, but Fitchburg State sophomore attack Emily Swan (Franklin, MA) erupted for a game-high five goals to help the Falcons post an 11-7 win over Elms College in the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) opener for both teams at Leary Field.

With the win, Fitchburg State improved to 2-2, 1-0 NEWLA. Elms College fell to 1-2, 0-1 NEWLA.

Lough scored her fifth goal of the year just 67 second into the game to give the Blazers a quick 1-0 lead.

Fitchburg State answered with four straight goals over the next 7:55, including three by Swan to build a 4-1 lead.

Senior center Lauren O'Donnell (Hampden, MA) and Lough scored two of the game's next three goals to cut the Blazers' deficit to 5-3 at halftime.

The Falcons scored four of the first five goals over the first 8:20 of the second half, including a pair of tallies by freshman attack Kaitlyn Kelley (Pepperell, MA) to extend the visitors' lead to 9-4.

Childs answered with her team-leading sixth and seventh goals of the year, and senior defender Raemarie Josefiak followed with her second goal of the season to cut the Blazers' deficit to 9-7.

Kelley and Swan, however, scored consecutive goals just 16 seconds apart in the final four minutes to help seal the victory.

Fitchburg State senior goalkeeper Ashley Davison (Bedford, MA) and Elms College junior goalkeeper Alicia Bobbie (Higganum, CT) stopped 12 shops apiece, while Kelley finished with four goals and three assists.

Elms College returns to NEWLA play when it hosts Thomas College on Saturday, March 29. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
