Softball Defeated By Castleton 16-6

LACROSSE DEFEATED BY CASTLETON, 16-6

CHICOPEE, MA.  April 6, 2008 - Elms College senior midfielder Caitlin Childs (Hingham, MA) netted three goals but could not stop the Blazers from being defeated 16-6 in Sunday afternoon's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) game at Leary Field.

With the victory Castleton improves to a record of 5-2, 3-1 NEWLA, while the Blazers drop to a mark of 2-5, 1-3 NEWLA.

Castleton senior attack Nicole Bouchard (Brentwood, NH) scored five goals and added four assists to lead the Spartans offensively.

Castleton junior goalkeeper Meredith Pope (Montpelier, VT) improved to a personal record of 4-2 on the season by limiting the Blazers to just three scores in the first half of play.  Junior goalkeeper Francesca Mazzola (Centerport, NY) and freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Duszak (Erieville, NY) combined to make three second half saves to preserve the Spartan victory.

Elms College freshman attack Jennifer Lough (Feeding Hills, MA), freshman midfielder Whitney Gerard (Brunswick, ME) and senior attack Carrie Allard (Springfield, MA) all scored a goal in the losing effort.

Elms College returns to conference play Tuesday, April 8 at Lasell.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
