Blazers Dominate Raiders On Senior Day

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College women's basketball team picked up an 86-68 win over Rivier University on Saturday afternoon at Picknelly Arena on Senior Day. The Blazers celebrated the careers of five members of the program. Daija Black (Germantown, MD), Shannon Cullen (Brookfield, CT), Noelle Pechie (Stafford Springs), and Samantha Lynes (Berlin, CT).

The home side got off to a slow start, and trailed 8-2 at the 5:57 mark off the opening quarter. Elms picked up its play, and pulled ahead of the visitors 12-11 with 3:31 remaining in the first. The home side finished the opening quarter on a 14-3 run, and held a 25-14 lead. The Blazers would not trail the reast of the game. 

The second quarter was all Blazers. Elms picked where they left off, and continued to dominate on both ends of the floor, outscoring Rivier 27-12 in the second, and took a 26 point lead into the break.

The Raiders outscored the Blazers in the third and final quarters, but the deficit was too much to overcome, giving Elms the 86-68 victory.

Elms had 11 different players register a basket in the game, with three of those in double-digits. Shannon Cullen (Brookfield, CT) had 10 points, MacKenzie Huria (Terryville, CT) had 12, and Lashaunte White (Miami, FL) led the way with 18.

The win improves Elms' overall record to (6-13) and they remain at (2-6) in the NECC.

The Blazers are back in action on Tuesday 1/4 at 6PM at Dean College in NECC play.
