Women’s Basketball Tripped Up At Home

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College women's basketball team dropped a home conference game 57-43 to the visiting Pilgrims of New England College over the weekend. The setback puts the Blazers at 5-11 overall and 2-4 in NECC action on the season.

The opening minutes both teams jockeyed for control, an NEC basket at the 2:48 mark gave the visitors a three-point advantage (15-12). The Pilgrims would slowly expand their lead, as they would take a 19-13 lead into the second quarter.

New England College would begin the frame on a 9-0 run, giving the Pilgrims a 28-13 lead. Elms would try to cut into the deficit, but NEC grew their lead to as large as 16 (33-17), the Blazers would battle back and cut into the NEC lead and head into halftime down 14 (35-21).

In the third quarter, both teams traded chances, with the Pilgrims expanding their advantage to as large as 21 (44-23), but a late run by Elms College sent the two teams into the final quarter with NEC leading 46-31.  

New England College continued to apply the pressure on the Blazers, as they pushed their lead back to 20 points (56-36). Elms would have a late run but would still fall 57-43 in the NECC matchup.

Regina LeBlanc would lead the Blazers with 11 points, Angelica Peguero-Flores pitched in with 11 rebounds.

Elms is back on the court on Tuesday 1/21 at 7PM when they travel to Becker College for another NECC game.
