Blazers Come Up Short With Bulldogs

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College women's basketball team suffered a 64-58 setback on Tuesday night to Dean College in NECC action at Picknelly Arena. The loss puts the Blazers at 4-9 overall and 1-2 in conference.

The opening quarter saw back and forth action with the two teams exchanging baskets throughout. Elms built up a 13-8 lead, but the Bulldogs would score the final six points of the quarter and take a one point lead into the first break.

The second frame would belong to the visitors. Dean would get hot and shot 47.1 percent from the field, and outscore the home side 19-14 holding a six point lead at the half.

The back and forth action would the theme all game. The Blazers came out in the third and dominated play on both ends of the court. Dean would shoot 28.6 percent and see its lead cut down to only one point going into the final 10 minutes.

The final quarter saw the Bulldogs capitalize on their opportunities and build on their lead. Dean would convert 9 of 11 free throws that would prove to be the difference in the game, and take the 64-58 win.

Regina LaBlanc (Enfield, CT) was huge for Elms, LeBlanc ended up with 18 points, and seven rebounds. Daija Black (Germantown, MD) chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds.

The Blazers are back in NECC action on Saturday 1/11 at 12PM when they travel to Mitchell College.
