Blazers Fall In OT To Visiting Wildcats

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College women's basketball team lost 64-58 to the visiting Johnson and Wales Wildcats last Tuesday. The Blazers erased a 10 point halftime deficit and pushed to game to extra time before falling short. The loss puts Elms at (1-6) on the season.

The Blazers had a difficult time finding any rhythm on the offensive end of the court in the first half, and could only manage 16 points. However a strong effort on the defensive end would keep the game close, the Blazers only allowed 26 points and would trail by 10 at the break.

Elms would come out in the second half and control the tempo, outscoring JWU 13-9 in the third quarter to cut into the Wildcat lead. The fourth quarter would see the Blazers continue to dominate play, and take a three point lead with three minutes to play. The rest of the quarter would see back and forth action with neither team able to pull away. The Blazers would hold a slim two point advantage with 10 seconds to play and looked poised to take the win, however a layup with one second on the clock by JWU would send the game into overtime.

Elms would find themselves up 54-51 with 3:35 to play, only to see the Wildcats go back in front 55-54. JWU would build on their lead and start to pull away from the Blazers eventually taking the game 64-58.

Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, CT) was big for Elms picking up 21 points, five assists, five steals, and four rebounds.  Angelica Peguero-Flores (Springfield, MA) pitched in with nine points and seven rebounds, McKenzie Huria added 10 points for the Blazers.

Elms is back in action on Wednesday 12/4 when they travel to MCLA for a non-conference game at 5PM.
