Elms Women Fall At Mitchell, 71-53

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Elms College women's basketball team couldn't overcome a cold shooting performance at Mitchell College on Tuesday, falling 71-53 in New England Collegiate Conference play.

The Blazers (6-6, 2-3 NECC) shot 24.2 percent (15-of-62) from the field and couldn't slow down the Mariners, who shot 40.8 percent (29-of-71) to improve to 5-0 in conference play and 6-5 overall. The loss snaps Elms' three-game win streak.

Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, Conn.) led Elms with 11 points and six rebounds and Molly Moulton (North Adams, Mass.) and Nika Orsaris (Hartford, Conn.) each added eight points. Orsaris delivered five of Elms' nine assists in the game.

Mitchell controlled the glass, out-rebounding Elms 52-40, allowing the Mariners to enjoy a 16-10 advantage in second-chance points.

Mitchell's Amina Wiley (New Rochelle, N.Y.) led all scorers with 25 points and added 13 rebounds, including six on the offensive end. Le'Sandra Turner (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added 16 points and six assists for the Mariners.

Elms continues NECC action on Jan. 10 when Newbury visits Chicopee. Mitchell will return to action on Thursday as well, visiting Lesley.
