Lockdown Defense Leads Elms Women's Basketball To Win Over Mount Holyoke

CHICOPEE, Mass. – A lockdown defensive performance from the Elms College women's basketball team helped the Blazers pick up a 62-40 non-conference win over Mount Holyoke College in Picknelly Arena on Wednesday evening.

Elms (5-5) held the Lyons without a field goal (0-for-12) in the fourth quarter and Mount Holyoke (0-12) shot 26.0 percent (13-for-50) for the game. The Blazer defense forced 32 turnovers and converted those into 22 points. Elms also controlled the glass, finishing with a 47-36 rebounding advantage.

Molly Moulton (North Adams, Mass.) led the offensive charge for Elms, scoring a team-high 16 points by going 5-for-8 from the field and 6-of-9 at the free throw line. Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, Conn.) offset a cold shooting performance by dishing out six assists without a turnover and collecting five steals. Nakia Mabin (Bridgeport, Conn.) added nine points and three rebounds off the bench for Elms and Niah Pantry (New Haven, Conn.) added eight points, four rebounds and three steals.

Mount Holyoke's Annika Brooks (Portland, Maine) led all scorers with 22 points, hitting 8-of-21 from the field and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Leah Hodges (New Haven, Conn.) and Graceanne Woods (Glen Cove, N.Y.) each added six points for the Lyons.

The Blazers shot 37.3 percent (25-of-67) from the field in the game and assisted 17 of 25 made baskets.

Elms returns to New England Collegiate Conference play this weekend, visiting Lesley on Jan. 5. Mount Holyoke will visit NEWMAC foe WPI the same day.
