Blazer Women Earn Non-Conference Win At USJ

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Angelica Peguero-Flores poured in 20 points off the bench and Molly Moulton added 17 as the Elms College women's basketball team picked up a 67-54 win at St. Joseph (Conn.) in non-conference action on Saturday.

Peguero-Flores hit 9-of-15 attempts an added nine rebounds and three blocks in the game. Moulton, meanwhile, hit 6-of-10 to go with seven boards and four assists. Regina LeBlanc added 12 points and eight assists for the Blazers (4-5).

Melicia Mendez led USJ (2-9) with 12 points and seven rebounds and Silvana Barcomb chipped in with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Elms shot 48.1 percnet (26-of-54) from the field and hit half (6-of-12) of its 3-point attempts. The Blazers were also steady on defense, holding the Bluejays without a 3-pointer in the game (0-of-7) and just 35.4 percent shooting overall. Elms held a 48-30 rebounding advantage and 17-4 lead in second-chance points. Despite losing the turnover battle, 22-14, Elms matched USJ's 16 points-off-turnovers.

Saturday's game was the last before the new year for the Blazers, who return to action with a non-conference matchup against Mount Holyoke on Jan. 2 at 6:00 p.m. in Picknelly arena. The Blazers return to New England Collegiate Conference action on Jan. 5 at Lesley.
