BROOKLINE, MA, Feb. 21, 2009 - Elms College junior forward Amanda Brogna (Oxford, MA) posted a double-double with a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds as the Blazers placed three scorers in double figures to post a 66-49 win over Newbury College in Saturday's New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball regular season finale for both teams at Hellenic College.

Elms College (14-11 overall, 12-4 NECC) concluded the regular season with nine wins over the final 11 games to finish third in the inaugural final regular season conference standings. The Blazers now advance to host a first round NECC Tournament game on Tuesday, February 24 against an opponent to be named.

Despite dropping its third straight game, Newbury (5-20, 5-11 NECC) also advanced to this week's NECC Tournament and will play as the No. 6 seed.

The Blazers led just 27-25 at intermission before Brogna took over with 14 second half points on 7 of 10 shooting.

Junior guard Tomie Lafond (Hatfield, MA) scored 14 points, including 4 of 7 shooting from 3-point range and senior forward Paige Schneider (Windsor, CT) added 10 points to both reach double figures in the win.

With her 10-point effort, Schneider also surpassed Lauren Donovan as the program's 12th all-time leading scorer.

The Blazers outscored the host Nighthawks 39-24 in the second half as they limited Newbury to just 25.9-percent (7 of 27) shooting after intermission.
