All-Time Series: Elms College leads the series
1-0.
Last Meeting: Elms College defeated Southern
Vermont 85-54 on January 17, 2009 at Bennington, Vermont.
Setting The Scene: Elms College has won two straight and seven of eight, including last week's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) victories over Wheelock (60-32) and Bay Path (57-27). In Saturday's win at Bay Path, freshman guard Katie Condon (Sandy Hook, CT) netted a collegiate career-high 15 points and the Blazers used a big second half run to pull away. The Blazers led just 20-14 at halftime before erupting for a 19-2 run over the first 7:26 of the second half. Junior forward Amanda Brogna (Oxford, MA) netted seven of her nine points as Elms College scored 12 unanswered points in the first 4:03 of the second frame. Senior forward Paige Schneider (Windsor, CT) added her second straight double-double and sixth this season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Scouting The Opposition: Southern Vermont will look to snap a seven-game losing streak as it makes its first-ever appearance at the Maguire Center on Tuesday night. The Mountaineers are coming off a hard-fought 69-61 loss to NECC frontrunner Lesley last Saturday. Southern Vermont, which had lost by 39 at Lesley earlier this season, received 14 points apiece from senior forward Markeisha Mullen (Windsor Mill, MD) and freshman guard Alyssa Davis (West Burke, VT).
Hauling In Honors: Schneider was named this
week's NECC Player of the Week as she averaged 14.0 points and 16.0
rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Blazers that included conference
victories over Wheelock and Bay Path. In last Thursday's 60-32 win
over Wheelock, Schneider scored 14 points and added a collegiate
career-high 20 rebounds. Her career-night on the boards marked the
fourth-highest, single-game total in program-history, as Schneider
became just the fourth player in 29 years to grab 20 or more
rebounds. In Saturday's 57-27 win at Bay Path, Schneider added her
second straight double-double and sixth this season. Schneider
begins the week just 21 points away from surpassing Lauren Donovan
as the program's 12th all-time leading scorer. For the season,
Schneider has averaged 9.3 points and 7.6 rebounds in 22
starts.
Winnings Ways: The Blazers' current 12 wins are
the most since a 15-12 season in 2001-02.
Defense First: The Blazers' 27 points allowed in last week's win over Bay Path marked the second lowest total in program-history.
