CHICOPEE, MA. – The Elms College softball team swept Fisher College in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday 13-0 and 9-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game 1: Elms 13, FC 0 (5 innings)

 

Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) had all the right stuff on Sunday for the Blazers, allowing zero runs and besting Fisher College by a score of 13-0

The Blazers opened up scoring in the first inning, when Brandi Johnson (Philmont, NY) singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

The Blazers notched six runs in the second inning. The offensive firepower by the Elms College Blazers was led by Sarah Roussis (East Canaan, CT), Josie Cammarata (Wolcutt, CT), Sarah Fortini (Florida, MA), and Dow, all driving in runs in the frame.

Dow got the win for the Blazers. They went five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out nine, and walking zero.

The Blazers collected 14 hits on the day. Sofie Oliveira (Windsor Locks, Conn.), Courtney Schwark (Kingston, NY), Fortini, Nicole DeFeo (Watertown, CT), Cammarata, and Ryanne Fournier (Longmeadow, Mass) each racked up multiple hits for the Blazers. Fournier, Cammarata, DeFeo, Fortini, Schwark, and Oliveira each collected two hits to lead the Blazers. Elms was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Roussis had the most chances in the field with nine.
 

Game 2: Elms 9, FC 0 (5 Innings)

 

Mackenzie Alvarado (Plainville, CT) didn't allow a single run against Fisher College, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Blazers to a 9-0 victory on Sunday.
 
Elms secured the victory thanks to six runs in the first inning. Schwark, Cammarata, Alli Alleano (Vernon, CT), Fournier, and DeFeo all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Elms College Blazers fired up the offense in the first inning. Elms College Blazers scored on a stolen base during Schwark's at bat. Then Schwark singled, driving in one.

Alvarado earned the win for Elms. The right-hander lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out five and walking zero.

Elms College had eight hits in the game. Cammarata, Schwark, and Oliveira each collected two hits to lead the Blazers. Elms didn't commit a single error in the field. Alleano had the most chances in the field with five. The Blazers tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. DeFeo led the way with three.
 
 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Dow struck out nine in the first game.

- Fortini racked up three RBIs in the first game and two in the second.

- DeFeo notched four stolen bases in game one.

-  Alvarado struck out five in the second game.

- Schwark, Cammarata, Oliveira and Alleano all got one RBI in the second game.
