Blazers Sweep Last Doubleheader in Florida

Fort Myers, FL – The Elms College Softball team swept their non-conference doubleheader today winning against the New Jersey City University 4-2 and to Immaculata University 9-3

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game #1

The Elms College Blazers were victorious over New Jersey City University, 4-2.
 
In the first inning, Elms College Blazers got their offense started.  Kyla Cook (Taunton, MA) drew a walk, scoring one run.
 
Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) took the win for Elms College Blazers. Dow lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out six.
 
 
Courtney Schwark (Kinston, NY) led the Blazers with two hits in three at-bats.  Elms College Blazers was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Alli Alleano (Vernon, CT) had the most chances in the field with seven.
 
 

Game #2

The Elms College Blazers grabbed an early lead on its way to a 9-3 victory over Immaculata on Wednesday.  The Blazers scored on a error in the first inning and a groundout by Josie Cammarata (Wolcutt, CT)in the second inning.
 
Immaculata scored three runs in the first inning, but the Blazers still managed to pull out the victory. 
 
Elms College Blazers pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning.  In the second Nicole DeFeo was struck by a pitch, driving in a run and Cammarata grounded out, scoring one run.
 
The Blazers put up five runs in the third inning.  Tyra Edwards (Queens, NY), Kelsey Bennett (Chicopee, MA), Courtney Schwark, DeFeo, and Andrea Sampson (Chicopee, MA) each had RBIs in the big inning.
 
Mackenzie Alvarado (Plainville, CT) pitched the Blazers to victory. Alvarado allowed four hits and three runs over three innings, striking out two. Jayden Dow threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.  Dow recorded the last 12 outs to earn the save for Elms.
 
Schwark went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Elms College Blazers in hits.
 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Nicole DeFeo (Watertown, CT), Sofie Oliveira (Windsor Locks, Conn.) each had RBIs in the first game.

- Schwark and DeFeo each racked up multiple hits in the first game.

- Schwark went 2-for-3 at the plate in the second game.

- Edwards, Bennett, Schwark, DeFeo, and Sampson each had RBIs in the second game.
