Olszewski's Massive Senior Day Powers Blazers To Sweep Over Dean

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College softball team hung a 10-spot on Dean in the first inning of a double-header and never looked back in a sweep at Condon Field on Friday afternoon.

It was Senior Day for Elms third baseman Elizabeth Olszewski, and she celebrated by going a combined 6-for-6 at the plate with nine RBIs and a three-run home run.

The Blazers move to 10-13 overall and 7-3 in the New England Collegiate Conference with the wins while Dean drops to 4-18 and 1-8 in NECC play.

GAME 1 – Elms 17, Dean 1 (5 Innings)
The Blazers responded to an early Bulldog run with eight hits and 10 runs in the bottom of the first to take a 10-1 lead. One Dean error in the inning didn't help the Bulldog cause.

Elms added another six runs on six hits in the bottom of the second and pitcher Lisa Lusardi kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard the rest of the way. She allowed six hits and one run while striking out three and not giving up a walk, and improves to 5-8 on the season with the win. Dean pitcher Karissa Menzinger struck out three Elms batters and give up 10 earned runs in the loss.

Eight of Olszewski's nine RBIs came in the first game as she went 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and a homer. Katelyn Sylvia, Kayla Doherty, Madison Messier, Tyla Risucci, Jeszy McGuire and Catharine Wrang all added two hits for the Blazers.

GAME 2 – Elms 9, Dean 2
The Blazers picked up their second win of the day after a five-run second inning gave them a 6-1 lead. Dean made it 6-2 in the fourth but Elms added three more runs in the bottom of the inning for the decisive 9-2 advantage.

Olszewski went 3-for-3 for the second straight game and had two doubles. Risucci went 2-for-3 with a double and Messier also finished with two hits for the Blazers.

Raeanna Tumel went the Distance and struck out four without a walk. She scattered six hits and gave up two runs and improves to 4-5 on the season with the win.
