Men's Cross Country 13th At Smith Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, MA, Sept. 13, 2008 - Elms College sophomore Nick Whitman (Florence, MA) clocked a time of 23:12 over 5,000-meters to help the men's cross country team place 13th in the Smith Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Freshmen Ben Kronlund (Longmeadow, MA) and Mike Desmond (Nashua, NH), and juniors Mike Starke (Chicopee, MA) and Ryan Sullivan (Lenox, MA) all finished to help the Blazers post their first team score of the year.

Coast Guard's runners took the first seven places en route to a sweep of the team title with a perfect score of 15 points. Westfield State (55), Springfield (116), Western New England (139), Norwich (141), Clark (175), Castleton State (189), New England (216), Mitchell (250), Lasell (254), MCLA (304), Southern Vermont (325) and Elms College (402) rounded out the 13-team field.

The Blazers return to action next Saturday, September 13 at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.  Race time is 11:15 a.m.
