Men's Cross Country Competes at Blazers Invitational

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT BLAZERS INVITATIONAL

CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 23 2006 - Elms College sophomore Catherine Andrews (Feeding Hills, MA) placed first overall, and was one of five Blazers to finish in the top 20 earning Elms College team championship honors at Saturday's Blazers Invitational women's cross country race at Chicopee Memorial State Park.

Elms College tallied 41 points, besting Mount Ida (62), Bay Path (70), and Newbury College (123).

Andrews finished the five-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in 21:12, finishing 1:29 before Mount Ida senior Danielle Ring (Leicester, MA), who claimed second place with a time of 22:41. Elms College sophomore Jill Bigos (Florence, MA) finished third overall (22:44), while freshmen Amanda Koch (Williston, VT) took seventh (23:08) and Alycia Dabrowski(Chicopee, MA) took fourteenth (25:59). Elms College junior Francine Haddon (East Haven, CT) rounded out the Blazers top 20 finishers with a time of 27:28.

In the men's eight-kilometer (4.95-mile) race, Newbury College sophomore Herrell Siller Jr. (Palo Alto, CA) clocked a time of 25:43, breaking the course record of 25:59 which he set last year. Southern Vermont freshman Kyle Hoseit (Saco, ME) finished at 28:26 to take second place. Elms College senior Joe Crooks (Chicopee, MA) took seventh overall with a time of 29:54 and freshman Ryan Sullivan (Lenox, MA) finished one minute later at 30:54.

Johnson State had five runners place in the top 10 earning them 26 points and the men's team championship. Newbury College finished with 53 points.
