Blazers Split Tri–Match with Northern Vermont and Rivier

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College men's volleyball team split a tri – match with Northern Vermont College and Rivier University on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers defeated Northern Vermont 3-0 with set scores of (25-7,25-12, and 25-15), and lost to Rivier 3-1 with set scores of (24-26, 26-28, 25-20, and 17-25).

 

Elms 3, Northern Vermont 0

The Blazers dominated the action from start to finish in the first match of the day. Elms would have nine different players register a kill, and hold the Badgers to a -.178 percentage. Pablo Ortiz (Newington, CT), Carlos Mercado (Barranquitas, P.R.), and Luis Martinez (Bayamon, P.R.) each had five kills, Mercado also pitched in with 14 assists and nine digs.

 

Elms 1, Rivier 3

The second match of the day saw the home side fall behind 2-0 after two back and forth sets. The Blazers battled back and took the third set, pushing the match to a fourth. The visitors jumped out to 14-6 lead and never looked back, taking the set and the match.

Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R.) led the way with 23 kills and seven digs. Carlos Mercado (Barranquitas, P.R.) had 44 assists and seven digs in the Match.

Elms will host Arcadia University Saturday 2/29 at 1PM at Picknelly Arena.
