Men’s Volleyball Rolls Past St. Joseph’s (L.I.)

Patchogue, NY - The Elms College men's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 decision over St. Joseph's (L.I.) in a non-conference contest inside the Danzi Center on Sunday afternoon. Set scores were (25-20, 33-31, and 25-23). The Blazers improve to 5-3 with the win.

Elms was led by Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R.), who hit .347 in the match and put down a team-best 24 kills. The outside hitter also had eight digs in the match. Carlos Mercado (Barranquitas, P.R.) recorded 45 assists, and Antonio Delgado (Aibonito, P.R.) had 14 digs on the day

After taking the first set by a score of 25-20, SJC kept pace with Elms in an epic second set that went back and forth before yielding a 33-31 decision in favor of the Blazers.

In the third, the Golden Eagles went up 20-18, but the Blazers grabbed seven of the last 10 points to clinch a 25-23 set win and earn the 3-0 sweep.

Elms hit .209 as a team and had 54 digs.

The Blazers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to MIT for a tri-match. Elms will face the hosts at 12PM, and Illinois Tech at 2:30PM.
