Men’s Volleyball Defeats Sage In Straight Sets

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College men's volleyball dominated the action on Wednesday night at Picknelly Arena. The Blazers swept past the visiting Sage College Gators 3-0 with set scores of (25-15, 25-19, and 25-19)

Elms got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 11-7 lead on a kill from Luis Martinez (Bayamon, P.R.) and never looked back. The Blazers never trailed in the opening set, and would go on to take set one 25-15.

The second set saw the visitors play their best volleyball on the match, and the Gators held a slim 9-8 lead. The Blazers took back the lead with a 4-0 run sparked by a Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R.) kill off of a Carlos Mercado (Barranquitas, P.R.) assist. The home side continued to pull away, taking the second set 25-19.

The third and final set was a mirror image of the second set. Sage jumped out front only to see the Blazers go on a run. With the gators leading 11-7, Diego Hernandez (San Juan, P.R.) stepped up with a kill that sent Elms on a six point run, and eventually to a 25-19 set win.

Elms hit .367 as team, compared to only .159 by Sage. The Blazers had eight different players register a kill in the match.
