Men’s Volleyball Splits Final Two Contests In Clash At Kean

Union, NJ – The Elms College men's volleyball team split its final two matches on Saturday afternoon at the Clash at Kean Tournament. The Blazers swept past Penn St. – Altoona 3-0 with set scores of (25-20, 25-18, and 25-21) in the first match of the day. Elms would later fall to #10 Arcadia 3-1 (31-33, 30-32, 26-24, and 22-25).

Elms got off to a fast start against the Lions hitting .458 percent. With score knotted at 19-19 the Blazers scored six of the next seven pints and took the opening set 25-20. Elms would dominate the middle set outscoring Penn St.  25-18 and took a (2-0) set lead. The third and final set would see back and forth action, with score 13-13 the blazers would start to pull away and close out the match 25-21.

The second match of the day was by far the most completive of the weekend for the Blazers against #10 Arcadia. Elms would fall to the Knights 3-1 with all four sets being decided by a combined nine points. The Blazers would have three different players register a double-double in the match. Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R.) had 30 kills and 14 digs. Carlos Mercado (Barranquitas, P.R.) picked up 48 assists and 11 digs, and Diego Hernandez (San Juan, P.R.) pitched in with 13 digs and 11 kills.

Elms is back in action on Thursday 1/23 at 7PM when they travel to Emmanuel College.
