Blazers Dominate Tri-Match With Lions and Lynx

MEDFORD, MA - The Elms College men's volleyball team was perfect on Saturday, winning both matches 3-0. The Blazers were dominant all day and added to their 4-game winning streak.

The first match match of the day was never in doubt as the Blazers led from start to finish winning 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-15). Elms jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first set and pushed its lead to 24-18 behind strong play from Jovanny Torres (Juncos, P.R).  Eastern Nazarene would battle back and cut the deficit to 24-18, but an attack error by Tim Eddings would give the Blazers the opening set.

The second set saw back and forth play from both teams. A kill from Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R.) seemed to spark the Blazers and increase their lead to 14-10.Torres would take over earning 5 kills on the way to winning the set 25-14 and a 2-0 set advantage.

Set three saw the Blazers jump out to a 12-3 lead behind several errors committed by the Lions and three consecutive service aces from John Dunphy (Farmington, CT.). Elms would cruise on from that point and finish off the Lions with a kill from David Hernandez (Manati, P.R.) to take the third set 25-15 and the match 3-0.

 

In their second match of the afternoon, the Blazers were too much for the Lynx to handle in a 3-0 (25-3, 25-9, 25-8) win for the defending league champion.

Elms jumped out to a 13-2 lead behind five kills from Jeremy Torres and 19 consecutive points from the service of David Hernandez (Manati, P.R.) to give the Blazers the opening set.

Elms continued dominating play in the second set, with an 18-6 lead after three consecutive kills from Pablo Ortiz (Newington, CT.). Oritz would finish off the set for Elms by picking up two service aces.

Set three saw more of the same with the Blazers controlling the match and jumping out to a big lead. Elms would have an 18-4 advantage in the set behind 10 consecutive service points from John DunphyThe Blazers would finish off the Lynx on a kill from Dunphy.

The Blazers are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Baruch with a 6 pm start time.
