NO. 15 Men’s Volleyball Split Tri-Match With NO.10 Endicott College and Vassar College

BEVERLY, MA. – The No. 15 nationally ranked Elms men's volleyball team split a tri-match against No. 10 Endicott and Vassar on Saturday evening at MacDonald Gymnasium. In their first match of the day, the Blazers fell to the Gulls, 3-1, by scores of 22-25, 29-27, 25-20, and 25-23. The Blazers were able to rally and defeat Vassar in their next match, 3-2 by scores of 23-25, 18-25, 26-24, 25-17 and 15-13.

Elms went up 1-0 in the match and were leading 24-20 in set two, Endicott was able to close out the set on a 9-3 run that allowed the Gulls to even up the scoreboard and seize all momentum in the contest.

From there, the Gulls compiled set-highs in kills (14) and hitting percentage (.387) in set three and bounced back from an 18-14 deficit in set four via seven kills, one service ace, two blocks, and an Elms service error to come away with the victory.

The Blazers were led by strong performances from Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R.) who had 19 kills and 10 digs, Jovanny Torres (Juncos, P.R.) who had 22 kills and 9 digs, John Dunphy (Framington, CT.) who had 21 assists and Audrye Alejandro's (Las Piedras, P.R.)10 digs.

Bryn Lipton (Rockford, IL) finished the match with a team-high 19 kills, two service aces, five digs, and two block assists for the Gulls. Jeremy Doski (Sandy Hook, CT) added seven kills, 20 assists, five digs, and three block assists.

 

Elms 3 Vassar 2

The Brewers won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-18, only to see the Blazers bounce back and take the final three sets 26-24, 25-17 and 15-13 in a dramatic come from behind victory.

Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R.) was impressive from start to finish leading the Blazers to the win. Torres had 22 kills (.345) and 11 digs. John Dunphy (Framington, CT.) and Carlos Mercado (Barranquitas, P.R.) combined for 42 assists. Audrye Alejandro (Las Piedras, P.R.) pitched in with 14 digs.

The Blazers are back in action on Friday March 8th when the host New Paltz St. with a 7pm start time.
