Blazer Volleyball Makes It Four Wins In A Row

MARCY, N.Y. -- Make it four in a row for Elms College men's volleyball. The Blazers extended their winning streak on Friday two wins to open the SUNY Poly Invitational, picking up a 3-1 win over Nazareth and a 3-0 sweep of host SUNY Poly.

The Blazers improve to 4-1 on the young season with the victories, while Nazareth drops to 0-2 and SUNY Poly falls to 0-1. The Blazers have two more matches on the docket to close out the tournament on Saturday, facing Geneva at 11:00 a.m. and Thiel at 1:00 p.m.

Elms 3, Nazareth 1
Jeremy and Jovanny Torres powered the Blazers to a win in the opening match of the day, a 25-17, 14-25, 25-16, 25-20 win over Nazareth. Jeremy finished with 17 kills and hit .225 while Jovanny added 15 kills and 11 digs on a .242 hitting percentage. Carlos Mercado finished with 22 assists and the Blazers hit .278 in the contest.

Elms held Nazareth to a .114 hitting percentage and held a 43-26 advantage in digs in the match. Jordan Hildreth led Nazareth with nine kills on a .368 hitting percentage and four blocks.

Elms 3, SUNY Poly 0
Despite the 3-0 score, Elms' second win of the day was highly contested as the Blazers took down SUNY Poly by scores of 25-23, 25-19, 26-24.

Jake Johnson helped the Blazer offense with seven kills on just 12 attempts, hitting .500 in the match. Jovanny Torres had a team-best 13 kills and Jeremy Torres added 11. John Dunphy delivered 23 assists and added eight digs, and Antonio Delgado tallied a team-high 13 digs.

The Blazers out-hit SUNY Poly in the match, .176-.123. Donovan Suguitan led SUNY Poly with 12 kills and nine digs, and Piotr Kasza dished out a match-high 31 assists.
