Jeremy Torres Selected As AVCA National Player Of The Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Elms College men’s volleyball freshman outside hitter Jeremy Torres (Juncos, P.R./Colegio La Luz) was selected as the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week on Tuesday after helping the Blazers to a perfect 4-0 record at the SUNY Poly Invitational Jan. 19-20.

Torres totaled 75 kills and a .318 hitting percentage as the Blazers picked up wins over Nazareth, Johnson & Wales, Rivier and Wells to open the 2018 season. He averaged 4.69 kills per set to go with 2.06 digs per set.

Torres had 26 kills and 13 digs with a .400 hitting percentage in the Blazers’ five-set win over Johnson & Wales on Jan. 19. He hit .464 with 15 kills in a sweep over Rivier before picking up the second 20-kill match of his young career in the tournament finale against Wells.

The Blazers will put their four-match winning streak on the line at The Clash at Kean this weekend, facing No. 2 Stevens on Jan. 26, and Medaille and No. 11 Kean on Jan. 27.
