Elms Closes Regular Season With Fifth-Straight Win

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Elms College men's volleyball team closed out the regular season with its fifth-consecutive victory, a 3-0 win at Newbury College on Saturday afternoon.

Elms won 25-13, 25-15, 25-15 and takes the No. 2 seed into next week's New England Collegiate Conference tournament after finishing the regular season 18-6 overall and 10-2 in league play. Newbury drops to 5-17 overall and 4-8 in the NECC.

Jeremy Torres led Elms with 11 kills while hitting .409 and Jovanny Torres flirted with a triple-double, finishing with nine kills, 10 assists and eight digs while hitting .474.

Jake Johnson added six kills on seven attempts for Elms and Nik Bates and Gabriel Levy each finished with five. John Dunphy dealt 11 assists for Elms and Kahlil Peters finished with 10 as the two joined with Jovanny Torres to set Elms to a .390 hitting percentage for the match.

Trevor Thorne led Newbury with five kills and Jeremias Soto had 11 assists for the Nighthawks.

Newbury hit -.053 in the match and Elms owned a 35-24 advantage in digs and 5-1 lead in total blocks.

The Blazers will host the No. 3 seed in the NECC semifinals on April 12.
