Elms Men's Volleyball Sweeps SUNY Poly

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Jovanny Torres (Juncos, P.R.) led the Elms College men's volleyball team to a 3-0 non-conference win over SUNY Poly in Picknelly Arena on Thursday night.

Torres tallied a match-high 13 kills while hitting .545 and added eight digs and an ace in the match for the Blazers, who improve to 12-4 on the season with the win. Gabriel Levy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) added nine kills and four blocks, including a pair of solo blocks, for Elms.

John Dunphy (Farmington, Conn.) picked up 22 assists while Kahlil Peters (Hartford, Conn.) added 13 and the pair set the Blazers to a .388 hitting percentage for the match. Elms, meanwhile, held SUNY Poly (5-13) to just a .046 hitting percentage.

The Blazers jumped out to early leads in all three sets, leading 6-0 in the first set, 5-0 in the second and and 4-0 in the third before winning by scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-15. The Wildcats never held the lead in any set during the match.

Max Szuba (Irondequit, N.Y.) led SUNY Poly with six kills and added four digs. Ryan Gloff (Brockport, N.Y.) added five kills for the Wildcats and Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass.) collected 18 assists and two blocks.

Elms will return to New England Collegiate Conference action when Dean College visits Picknelly Arena at 1:00 p.m. on March 17. SUNY Poly will visit Keuka at the same time.
