Blazer Men's Volleyball Sweeps ENC In NECC Opener

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms men's volleyball team opened New England Collegiate Conference play with a straight-set win over Eastern Nazarene at Picknelly Arena on Saturday evening.

After opening the match with an eye-popping 25-3 victory in the first set, the Blazers used back-to-back 25-23 victories to close out the sweep. Elms in proves to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the NECC with the win, while Eastern Nazarene falls to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the NECC.

Gabriel Levy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Jovanny Torres (Juncos, P.R.) each led the Blazers with seven kills, while John Dunphy (Farmington, Conn.) had a team-best 21 assists. Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) had a match-high 11 kills for the Lions, while Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) tallied 17 assists.

Elms hit .329 in the match while holding ENC to .038. The Blazers had 12 kills on 13 attacks without an error during the dominant first set to hit. 923 before hitting .154 and .226 in the second and third sets, respectively.

The Blazers continue NECC play at Southern Vermont on Feb. 8 while ENC hosts Emerson on the same day.
