Men's Volleyball Cruises Past Cairn, Battles Nazareth In Five Sets at SUNY Invitational

MARCY, N.Y. – The Elms College men's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of action at the 2017 SUNY-Poly Invitational at the Wildcat Field House Saturday afternoon. The Blazers swept Cairn University, 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19), and then battled Nazareth University in a five set loss, 3-2 (18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 12-25, 11-15). With the split, the Blazers move to 2-2 on the season.

Against Cairn, junior Gabriel Reis Levy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) led the Blazers attack with a team-high eight kills, four digs, and four service aces. Senior Qua'Sean Crowe (Stamford, Conn.) tallied five kills and four blocks, while junior Daniel Bondarovsky (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) added four kills, six digs, three aces and three blocks. Sophomore John Dunphy (Farmington, Conn.) dished out a match-high 20 assists with five digs, and freshman Audrye Alejandro (Las Piedras, P.R.) grabbed a match-high 13 digs in the win.

During the five-set battle with Nazareth, Reis Levy delivered a match-high 18 kills with four digs and two aces. Bondarovsky slammed 15 kills with seven digs and four blocks, while Dunphy doled out a match-high 33 assists with three digs and two kills. Alejandro grabbed a career-high 35 digs, while freshman David Hernandez (Springfield, Mass.) tallied a career-high 10 digs with three kills.

The Blazers will be back in action when they open up New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play with a road trip to Eastern Nazarene College Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. match.
