Men's Volleyball Falls At No. 6 Rivier, 3-0

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS AT NO. 6 RIVIER, 3-0

NASHUA, NH, Feb. 4, 2009 - Elms College sophomore outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) hammered down a match-high 22 kills, but Rivier senior middle hitter Scott Wright (Salem, NH) and junior middle blocker Matt Ferreira (Lincoln, RI) combined for 27 kills to lead the No. 6 Raiders to a 3-0 (30-26, 36-34, 30-24) win over the Blazers in Wednesday night's non-conference match at the Muldoon Center.

The Blazers lost their fourth straight and fell to 2-7 overall.

Rivier, ranked sixth in the latest Bison/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top 15 Poll, were led by junior setter Zach Hanson (Shelton, CT).  Hanson dished out a match high 49 assists while directing the Raider offense and also led the home team with eight digs and four total blocks.  

Bravo also had six total blocks, while freshman middle hitter Sequiel Sanchez Velez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico) added 10 kills and four blocks in the loss.

The Blazers return to NECVA New England Division play when they host MIT on Saturday night at the Maguire Center. First serve is 6:00 p.m.
