Women's Swimming 11th At NEISDA Championships

DURHAM, NH, Feb. 18, 2007 - Elms College freshman Liz Walker (Holyoke, MA) earned a second place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke and was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Swimmer Of The Year as the men and women's swim teams competed at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships on Sunday at Swasey Pool.

The women's swim team finished 11th out of 22 teams scoring 284 points. Bentley College (881) Keene State (791.5), Bryant University (513), Westfield State College (469.5), and Bridgewater State College (451) were the top five overall teams.

Walker's second overall finish in the 200-yard breaststroke was a school record 2:29.50.

Walker later teamed with junior Kaity Jo Bryll (East Hartland, CT), sophomore Kate Orefice (Southington, CT) and freshman Marie Waterhouse (East Longmeadow, MA) to set a school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:55.12 and an eighth place overall finish.

Waterhouse finished fourth overall in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 29.52, and sophomore Sarah Lapolice (West Springfield, MA) earned an 18th overall finish with a time of 31.75 in the same event.

For the men, freshman Mark Pirruccio (Brewster, MA) clocked a time of 50.97 to finish seventh overall in the 100-yard freestyle.

Freshman Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, CT) finished eighth overall in the 1650-yard freestyle registering a time of 18:08.49.

Pirruccio and DiMauro joined senior Ted Manley (Monson, MA) and freshman Mike Starke (Chicopee, MA) to set a school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay recording a time of 3:32.14.

Following the meet, joining Walker with GNAC Award honors were Waterhouse, who was named GNAC Rookie Of The Year, and coach Bill Tyler who was named both GNAC and NEISDA Coach Of The Year.
