Men’s Soccer Upended At Home By Keene State

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College men's soccer team fell to the visiting Keene State Owls 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Leary Field. The loss puts the Blazers at (1-3-1) on the season.

Keene State came out and controlled the match for most of the first half. The Owls had multiple chances, goalkeeper Julian Brosi (West Newbury, MA ) was outstanding, stopping all seven shots that found the frame. Keene's best chance came late in the first half when a shot hit the cross bar in the 44^thminute. The Blazers were unable to register a shot on goal in the first half but were able to put up two shots in total. 

It was the Blazers who came out of halftime with a ton of energy and the competitive edge, and struck for the first goal of the game when Michael Lemke (Bristol, CT ) put a shot past the Keene goalkeeper, giving the Blazers a 1-0 lead. That lead for the Blazers was very short lived, as just one minute and nine seconds later the Owls would get on the board knotting the game at one goal apiece.

Keene State came out firing after the equalizer, as they would collect their second and third goals of the afternoon just two and a half minutes apart from each other, and take a 3-1 advantage. 

The Owls would continue to pressure the Elms backline and add to their lead in the 65^th minute to go up 4-1. 

Keene would add an extra tally late in the game, giving the Owls the 5-1 lead. The Blazers would continue to battle and picked up their second goal of the game late in the second half off the foot of John Goebel (Norton, MA), but it was not enough to succumb the five straight the Owls scored. The Blazers had seven shots in the second half with five hitting the frame.

Elms is back in action on Wednesday 9/18 when they host Albertus Magnus College at 7:00PM on Leary Field.
