Blazers Draw With Flacons In Season Opener

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Elms College Men's Soccer team played Fitchburg State University to a 2-2, double overtime draw on Saturday evening on the road at Elliot Field in the season opener.

The Blazers grabbed a (1-0) lead at the 28:05 mark when freshman forward Alex Egan (Watertown, MA) fired a shot into the upper left corner off a free kick for his first collegiate tally. The Blazers would take the (1-0) into the break.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State knotted the score (1-1) early in the second frame when Sebastian Pina found the left side of the net.

The Blazers regained the lead in the 68th minute of play when senior Babba Jaden (Clarkston, GA) converted a penalty kick for his first tally of the season to make the score 2-1. The Falcons retied the contest (2-2) with roughly 15 minutes remaining in regulation when Alexander Loyd converted a penalty kick to force overtime.

Neither team was able to convert any of their chances in overtime, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

The Blazers will host the Lasers of Lasell University on Tuesday 9/3 for a non-conference matchup at 8:00 PM. Elms will also be holding the blessing of the athletes.
