Men's Soccer Picks Up Road Win At Curry

MILTON, Mass. – A 90 second offensive burst that resulted in two Blazer goals was all the Elms College men's soccer team needed to secure a 2-1 victory over Curry College in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

After nearly an hour of scoreless play, Shaquille Robinson (New York, N.Y.) converted a breakaway to give Elms (2-7) a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute. Moments later, Robinson took advantage of a misplay from Curry (6-4-1) goalkeeper Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) and found Colby Macdonald (Bristol, Conn.) who scored to put the Blazers ahead 2-0 in the 61st minute.

Elms maintained the 2-0 lead into the 75th minute when the Colonels earned a penalty kick. Blazer goalkeeper AJ Oliveira (Beacon Falls, Conn.) denied the attempt, but Brandon Rinaldi was there to put home the rebound for Curry to cut the Blazer lead to 2-1. Curry, however, did not put another shot on goal as Elms closed out the 2-1 victory.

The Blazers held a 12-11 advantage in shots and 5-3 lead in corner kicks in the game. Oliveira and DeMaio each finished with five saves in the game.

The Blazers will return to the pitch on Sept. 29 as New England Collegiate Conference play resumes at Becker. Curry will host University of New England on Sept. 29.
