SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Five first half goals from Western New England University were too much for the Elms College men's soccer team to overcome on Sunday as the Blazers fell 5-0 to the Golden Bears.
Western New England improved to 6-1-2 with the win while Elms dropped to 1-7. The Golden Bears got goals in the seventh and 14th minutes as Chris Manousos found Matt Remillard for both scores. Manousos notched his third assist of the game in the 25th minute when he set Nick Kubacki up for a score that made it 3-0 in favor of WNE. Connor Prindle and Derek Maccini added 41st and 44th minute goals to build the advantage to 5-0.
Western New England finished with a 28-5 advantage in shots and 8-5 edge in corner kicks in the game. Elms goalkeeper AJ Oliveira made 11 saves in the contest but faced 16 shots on goal. Elms managed two shots on goal in the game but Dylan Husted turned both away for the shutout victory.
Elms will return to action with another non-conference game on Sept. 26 when the Blazers visit Curry. WNE will also be in action on Sept. 26, visiting Trinity (CT).
