Edelen Leads Blazers Past Cadets

Chicopee, MA. – The Elms College men's basketball team opened up 2020 with a 70-58 home win over Norwich University on Thursday evening at the Maguire Center. The Blazers jumped out to a 16-3 lead, and would carry a 13 point advantage into the break.

The Elms offense was fueled by DJ Edelen's (Prince George, VA) hot start, the junior would score the first eight points of the game, and finish with a game high 20. The Blazers would hold the Cadets to only 20 first half points on 26.7 percent shooting, and take a comfortable 13 point lead into the half.

The second half saw both teams go on double digit runs, with the visitors cutting the lead down to seven (58-51) with 5:56 to play in the game. The Blazers would step the pressure on the defensive end, and force the Cadets to miss nine of their final 12 shots. Elms was also able to convert enough shots down the stretch to ice the game.

The Cadets struggled from the charity stripe hitting just 5-of-12 (41.7%) free throws while Elms converted 12-of-15 (80%) freebies.

Edelen would finish would a double-double (20 and 11), Justin Feliciano (Springfield, MA) would pitch in with 14 points, five steals, two assists, and two rebounds.

The Blazers are back on the court Wednesday 1/8 at 5PM when they host Lesley University in NECC action.
