Chicopee, MA – The Elms College men's basketball team picked up win on Saturday afternoon at Picknelly Arena. The Blazers edged out the visitng NVU-Johnson Badgers 84-81 in non-conference action. The win pushes Elms to (3-8) on the season.
Double-digit scoring by D.J. Edelen (Prince George, VA) and Nikolas Brown (Wellington, FL) gave Elms the edge in the first 20 minutes of action. The Blazers would take a 41-37 advantage into the break.
The Badgers would come out strong in the second half going on a 24-6 run, as they sought to take control from the Blazers. Johnson took control of the tempo and earned a six point advantage with eight minutes left in action. Elms would battle back and pull ahead of the Badgers 71-70 with only 3:46 to play. The last three minutes would see four lead changes. Justin Feliciano (Springfield, MA) would ice the game with a free throw with eight seconds to play, giving the Blazers the 84-81 win.
Elms was fueled by a game high 23 points from Edelen and a double-double from Kewan Smoot (Windsor, CT), who scored 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
The Blazers are back on the court on Thursday 1/2 when they host Norwich University at 5Pm at Picknelly Arena.
