Blazers Suffer Tough Home Loss

Chicopee, MA. -  The Elms College Men's Basketball team (3-19) suffered a tough home loss in what was a back and forth game with the Newbury Nighthawks (7-11) Wednesday night.

The Blazers came out on fire to start the second half, building a double digit lead only to see Newbury go on a hot streak of their own. The two teams traded baskets down the stretch in a back and forth battle. The Nighthawks clung to a three point lead with twelve seconds left when D.J. Edelen stepped up and knocked down a massive three pointer to tie the game. However, the Nighthawks would have some dramatics of their own: Tank Roberson, who finished with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, took an inbound pass and was able to weave his way down the court and finish a tough layup with only three seconds remaining in the game. The Blazers would manage a desperation three pointer attempt from David Lopez, Jr. that came off the back iron and secured the win for the Nighthawks.

Pierce Weatherspoon was big for the Nighthawks, despite being in and out of foul trouble all night with 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Francisco Santiago pitched in off the bench with 9 points and 4 rebounds.

The Blazers were led by Kewan Smoot's 13 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds. Justin Feliciano had a strong night with 11 points and 4 rebounds. D.J. Edelen pitched in with 14 points. Andre Peguero was big under the basket pulling down 16 rebounds in the loss.

The Blazers are back in action this Saturday when they host Dean College (13-7) with a 3pm tip-off.
