Men's Basketball Unable To Slow Down Becker

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College men's basketball team couldn't slow down Becker's Kareem Davis, as Davis poured in 32 points and the Hawks beat Elms 84-56 in New England Collegiate Conference play on Thursday evening.

Davis (Lowell, Mass.) went 9-for-18 from the field, including 4-for-10 from 3-point range, and was perfect in 10 free throw attempts to lead the Hawks (4-11, 3-4 NECC).

Justin Feliciano (Springfield, Mass.) led the Blazers (3-12, 2-5 NECC) with 13 points and four assists. David Lopez Jr. (Willimantic, Conn.) added 11 points and seven rebounds for Elms, and Nikolas Brown (Wellington, Fla.) chipped in with nine points and five boards for Elms.

The Blazers shot 37.1 percent (23-of-62) from the field for the game and struggled from long-range all night, connecting on just 2-of-17 3-point attempts (11.9 percent). The Hawks shot 45.0 percent from the field including 6-of-15 3-pointers. Becker held a significant advantage at the free throw line, going 24-of-26 (92.3 percent) while Elms went 8-for-10.

Elms held a slim, 37-36, rebounding advantage but the Hawks won the turnover battle, 20-10 and outscored the Blazers 26-10 in points off turnovers.

Antonio White Jr. (Middletown, Conn.) added 16 points for Becker, helped by a 10-for-10 free throw performance, and Dewayne Thomas (Lowell, Mass.) scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Elms will continue its three-game home-stand on Saturday, hosting Eastern Nazarene at 1:00 p.m., and Becker will return home to host Newbury College the same afternoon.
