Field Hockey Falls To Husson in NECC Action

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College field hockey team lost 3-1 on Saturday evening to the visiting Husson University Eagles. The setback puts the Blazers at (3-10) overall and (0-2) in conference on the season.

The Blazers took an early lead over the visitors as Ellie Serra (Palmer, MA) found Emily Huber (Jefferson, ME) in the 4th minute of the game and was able to rip a shot into the back of the Eagles cage. Elms would hold off a strong Husson attack and take a 1-0 advantage into the break.

The Eagles would not stay scoreless for long as they were awarded a penalty stroke in the 38th minute. Husson would convert the stroke to even the score 1-1. The Blazers and Eagles traded offensive opportunities for the next twenty minutes, but were unable to break through the opposition's defense.

It took until the 57th minute for the stalemate to be broken. The Eagles were able to find the back of the net on a penalty corner. Husson would add one more goal with 15 seconds remaining in the game, and take the 3-1 win.

Nora Newman (Woburn, MA) was big in the cage for the Blazers, making nine save in the game.

Elms is back on the field Tuesday 10/15 at 7PM when they host the New England College Pilgrims on Leary Field.
