Field Hockey Wins In OT Thriller

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College field hockey team won a thrilling overtime game on Thursday night on Leary Field. The Blazers would defeat the visiting Westfield State University Owls 4-3.

The Blazers got off to a fast start, outshooting the Owls 7-2 and dominating in penalty corners 7-0. The fast start would pay off when Olivia Keane (Enfield, CT) would find the back of the cage off a feed from Madison Gable (Agawam, MA) to give Elms a 1-0 lead going into the break.

The Second quarter saw the visitors grab the momentum and take a 2-1 lead on goals at the 16:11 mark and 21:32 mark. The Blazers would battle back and get a huge game-tying goal from Brittany North (Palmer, MA) on another assist from Gable. The two teams would go into halftime all tied up at 2-2.

The game would continue to see back and forth action in the third quarter. The Blazers would eventually break through on a goal from Emily Hubber (Jefferson, ME) from an Ellie Serra (Palmer, MA) assist.

The Blazer lead would be short lived, the Owls would find the equalizer just six minutes later and tie the game up at 3-3. Neither team could find the game winner in regulation, sending the game into overtime.

Elms would take their game to the next level and control play in the overtime period. The Blazers would find the game winner in the 64th minute when Gable smashed a shot into the back of the cage off a feed from Katelyn Jones (San Diego, CA).

Elms is back in action when they travel to Manhattanville College on Saturday 10/9 at 4:00PM. This will be the NECC opener for both teams.
