DANBURY, CT – The Elms College Field Hockey team lost 4-1 last night on the road at Western Connecticut State University.

The Blazers broke the ice less than 10 minutes into the contest when sophomore Erin Thibodeau (East Longmeadow, MA) took a pass from rookie Katelyn Jones (San Diego, CA) and found the back of the cage.

The Colonials knotted the count at 1-1 in the second quarter when Melissa Krim put in her first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore Olivia Moore.

The game remained deadlocked until the final quarter. Senior Lili Dickey  ripped a low liner that was deflected into the top corner of the net by junior Amanda Spano putting the Colonials ahead 2-1.

Elms had chances to tie it up but stellar defensive break ups by the Colonial defense kept the Blazers from notching the equalizer.

West Conn cemented the win when Morgan Matthews hit a backhander of the back the box. Shortly thereafter, Helen Heyse rounded the scoring out at 4-1 with an unassisted tally.

Nora Newman had seven saves in the game for the Blazers.

Elms is back in action on Saturday 9/7 at 12:00PM when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a non-conference game.
